Where is Island Express Charters located?
Island Express Charters operates out of Skyline Marina at the western edge of town. Our office is located at 2013 Skyline Way in Anacortes, Washington.
How do I schedule a ride?
Please text or call our office at (360) 299-2875. Let us know when and where you would like to go, along with the number of passengers, and we will provide you with a variety of departure times to meet your schedule. Once you select your time(s) we will confirm your reservation and add you to our schedule.
Is parking available?
Parking is available at Skyline Marina. Free street parking is available for 72 hours. During the busy summer months you may need to go into the surrounding neighborhoods to find available street parking.
Paid parking is available through Skyline Marina for roughly $8 per day. To purchase a parking pass, go to the Skyline Marina office located adjacent to the Island Express office. Marina employees will direct you to the parking areas (note that any lot around the marina area is by permit only). For large groups looking to carpool, a free Park & Ride lot is located near the corner of Highway 20 and March’s Point Road before you enter town.
Short term parking for unloading your gear is available in front of our office. Dock carts for moving your gear from the loading area to the dock are available next the ramp leading to our boats. Please let any of our staff know if you need assistance and they will be happy to help move your gear onto the boat.
When should I arrive?
We recommend arriving at Skyline Marina 30 to 45 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time. This allows you time to find our location, load your gear onto the dock (or boat if it is in), and to park your car. Due to the busy schedules of our boats and reservations of other passengers, we often are unable to wait for late passengers, but will try our best to accommodate. If you are coming from the Seattle area, keep in mind that traffic can be slow on Interstate 5. What may take you an hour and a half on a Tuesday morning, may take 3+ hours on a Friday afternoon in the summer. For extra adventure and less stress, try to leave home early. If there are no traffic delays, Anacortes is a beautiful town with wonderful eateries, shopping options, and stunning sightseeing opportunities to occupy any extra time.
How far in advance should I make a reservation?
We are able to take reservations from the day of departure to one year in advance. As our schedules can fill, especially during the summer months and holidays, we do recommend reserving one to two weeks prior. For private charters and large groups during the summer months, we recommend reserving at least a month in advance.
What should I do when I arrive at Skyline Marina?
Once you arrive at the marina, feel free to park in front of our office to unload your gear. Dock carts are available at our ramp for moving your gear from your car to the boat. If you need assistance in moving your gear, please let any of our staff know and they will be happy to help load your gear onto the boat. Our dock will have signs indicating which boat is going where. If the boat is not yet back from its run, feel free to stage your gear near the sign of your destination. You can check in directly with the crew on your boat or you can stop in at our office.
How much luggage can I bring?
There is no extra charge for typical personal items and luggage (groceries, suitcases, backpacks, coolers, etc.) If you have large items to transport (appliances, furniture, kayaks, golf carts, etc), let us know at the time of booking so that we can accommodate the freight and have staff on hand to help with loading and unloading. Large items and freight are subject to additional charges (see Fares for freight charges).
Can I bring pets?
Yes! Pets (leashed or crated) ride free of charge.
Are there bathrooms on the boats?
All of our boats are equipped with bathrooms on board. There is also a public restroom located at the Skyline Marina office building (north side of the building). The code to enter the restroom is 1476.
Do you offer discounts for children?
Children under 3 years of age ride for free. Children ages 3 to 12 years old ride at a reduced rate – $35 for trips to Decatur, Center, Blakely, Cypress, Obstruction and Sinclair Islands.
Is indoor seating available?
All of our boats have comfortable indoor seating with large view windows for passengers and pets. For those who prefer outdoor seating, benches on the bow of the boats (and stern for Island Express and Island Express II) are available for soaking up the sun.
How do I pay?
We take payment at the time of travel on board the boat. We accept cash, checks, or credit cards (a 2.9% service charge will be added to credit card payments).
How long is the ride?
With three boats in our fleet, we are able to schedule our runs to be the most efficient for our passengers, getting you to and from your destination quickly. Timing depends on your destination and if we need to make other stops along the way. Common transport times for Blakely, Decatur, Cypress, Sinclair, and Center Islands is between 30 to 45 minutes. Transport times to outer islands like Sucia and Waldron Islands are close to 1.25 – 1.5 hours.
What if I need to reschedule?
No problem! We have multiple runs daily and can easily move you to another time or day. Text or call us at (360) 299-2875 as soon as you know you need to reschedule.
Do you operate year round?
We operate everyday of the week, year round. The only day we close is for Christmas Day in order to allow our crew time to be with their family and friends. On Thanksgiving day we offer two morning runs, typically departing Skyline Marina at 9am and 11am.
Will you ever cancel my reservation?
No! During the winter months, an extreme weather system may cause us to reschedule your reservation to an earlier or later time to avoid the weather, but this is typically rare.
What if I need to cancel my reservation?
We understand when things come up and schedules change. Contact our office as soon as you can to cancel the reservation.
